The World Bank has approved a USD345mn loan to promote greener agriculture and rural development in Hubei and Hunan provinces in central China, complementing the Chinese government's USD4.1bn commitment. The China Green Agricultural and Rural Revitalization Program will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from crop and livestock farming, increase carbon sequestration, and improve biodiversity protection and restoration in agricultural ecosystems while strengthening the institutional capacity of local governments. The program supports China's national Rural Revitalization Program and aims to integrate environmental and decarbonisation objectives in government rural revitalization plans and investments.
