At the Global Green Finance Leadership Programme organised by the World Bank and Beijing Institute of Finance and Sustainability, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) deputy secretary Datuk John Mahmood Merican announced that Malaysia will be launching its voluntary carbon market (VCM) on 9 December. Managed by the MOF and Ministry of Environment and Water, Datuk Merican said the initiative will enable regulators to continue introducing new products, as well as initiating markets towards sustainable financing. Merican added that the VCM will help Malaysia achieve its sustainable development goals, including its target to be net-zero by 2050.
