Universiti Malaysia Sabah Works With Partners to Boost Recreational Fishing, Sustainable Development
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is working with local start-up ReeFish and World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia) to research on and encourage recreational fishing as a sustainable source of food. The project will focus on profiling recreational fishery by appraising its status in Sabah, as well as addressing the issue of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing contributed by angling activities. It will also engage the public as “citizen scientists” for their input and promote nature-based solutions to conserve and restore biodiversity.
