UN Honours Ambiga for Advocating Human Rights and Good Governance
Datuk S. Ambiga has been conferred an award by the United Nations (UN) in recognition of her contributions towards fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Malaysia. Ambiga, who is an Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC) member, received the award for her advocacy for human rights and good governance. She received the award at an event on Wednesday (Oct 24) along with the MyKasih Foundation and the National Ozone Unit (NOU). In 2009, Ambiga, formerly a Bar Council president, received the International Women of Courage Award from then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. MyKasih Foundation's award is for its exemplary leadership in reaching out to those left furthest behind and for promoting inclusion, while NOU was given an award for its unwavering commitment and continuous efforts in taking proactive measures towards environmental sustainability.
