UDA Makes Pact to Prevent Corruption in Construction Procurements

UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA), an agency under the purview of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, has introduced a procurement integrity pact through its anti-corruption and integrity policy, which aims to prevent corruption and misconduct in the construction sector. Under the initiative, UDA and its business partners cannot pay, offer, request or accept bribes to obtain jobs, contracts or tenders. Mohd Salem Kailany, president and chief executive of UDA, said corruption in the construction sector could happen if standard operating procedures are not followed and if there is no transparency. He highlighted that corporate governance values need to be applied. In other efforts to combat corruption, UDA obtained the ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management Systems certification last year.
