UAE’s Jaber Urges Methane Emissions Phase-Out By 2030

Sultan al-Jaber, the United Arab Emirates' COP28 president designate, emphasized the need for the oil and gas industry to phase out methane emissions by 2030 during the UAE Climate Tech conference in Abu Dhabi. He highlighted the importance of investing in technology to develop carbon alternatives. Jaber also called for a tripling of renewable energy capacity to 11,000 gigawatts by 2030 and doubling it again by 2040. However, he emphasized that renewable energy alone is not the sole solution to addressing climate change and stressed the significance of carbon capture technologies in reducing industrial emissions. The UAE will host the upcoming climate summit in December.
