Tokyo Stock Exchange Begins Trade in Carbon Credits

Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) has begun trading carbon credits, a significant step in the country's efforts to address climate change and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The new carbon credit market, facilitated by the TSE, allows registered members to trade J-Credits, which are government-certified tokens representing reduced or removed greenhouse gas emissions. J-Credits were previously traded between entities, but the TSE's market aims to enhance transparency, liquidity, and ease of trading. The launch is part of Japan's comprehensive strategy to encourage emissions reductions and support its carbon neutrality goal.
