TNB In Laos Tie-up To Boost Cross-Border RE Trade

Malaysia's Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has expressed its intent to collaborate with Laos' Electricite Du Laos (EDL) to facilitate cross-border renewable energy (RE) trade and human capital development. This initiative aims to strengthen the Asean Power Grid interconnectivity and reinforce TNB Power Generation's presence in Asean countries. The collaboration includes exploring investment and offtake opportunities for renewable power projects in Laos and the feasibility of exporting the generated RE to Malaysia through the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia Power Integration Project. The estimated trade value of RE export from Laos ranges from RM460 million for 200 MW in 2025 to a potential RM2.3 billion for 1,000 MW beyond 2030.
