SIRIM launches social accountability scheme to assist companies to manage business impact

SIRIM Bhd’s subsidiary, SIRIM QAS International has launched the Social Accountability Scheme (SIRIM 50) to assist companies in Malaysia in managing their business impact on society and communities with regards to manpower, worker rights and welfare, as well as work environment safety. The new initiative, in line with key environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, will be a basis for relevant audits and inspections of employer practices moving forward. SIRIM Bhd’s CEO, Datuk Dr Ahmad Sabirin, said at the launch event that ESG is a key business consideration today and its implementation will have a major impact on the reputation of a company and the relationship it has with its stakeholders.
