Sime Darby Plantation confident of achieving business goals

Despite global economic challenges ahead, Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) Bhd has said that it is confident in achieving its business and long-term sustainability goals and targets. In the palm oil producer’s recently released annual report, chairman Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas highlighted the company’s measures to review and improve its labour practices, to address criticisms after a United States Customs and Border Protection ban on its products following allegations of forced and convict labour at SDP’s Malaysian plantations. Najmuddin said that SDP has appointed consultants to undertake independent, full-scale reviews of labour practices across its Malaysian operations, and he is confident that it will emerge from the episode stronger.
