To reduce its carbon emissions and reach its net-zero target by 2050, petrochemical company Shell has released the world’s first carbon-neutral motor vehicle lubricant, produced from natural gas instead of crude oil, in Malaysia. Shell claims that the oils are “fully synthetic” and that natural gas is the “cleanest-burning fossil fuel”. The process of producing the new product lines uses a Gas-To-Liquid (GTL) technology that Shell had developed in the 1970s.
