Semporna launches international yellowfin tuna sustainable project

On 7 July, Senallang community development leader Adam Shah Mohammad launched the Yellowfin Tuna Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) in the Semporna Priority Conservation Area (PCA). The project aims to ensure the sustainability of the yellowfin tuna fisheries in the area, which is a crucial food and income source for local fishermen. The FIP is governed by government agencies, research institutes, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and communities from nearby Mabul Island, and is funded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Yayasan Hasanah.
