RM20bil Green Steel Project Complements Sabah's Green Tech Aspirations, Says Hajiji
A RM20 billion green steel project was initiated at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) in Sabah. As part of the project, an agreement was signed between Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) andEsteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd for the supply of 150 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of natural gas over the next 20 years. Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that the state welcomed investments in products that harness renewable energy, improve waste management and promote sustainable solutions. The Green Steel Project is a three-phase project which uses natural gas as a reducing agent instead of coke and coal, reducing carbon emissions by 70 per cent and making it low carbon, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
