Public Sector Alone Insufficient To Make Malaysia Net Zero By 2050, Says Securities Commission Chairman
Citing an external study by Boston Consulting Group and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia, Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia chairman Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin said that US$100 billion (RM450.75 billion) in financing is required over the next three decades for Malaysia to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. However, as this is quite a sizeable sum, the chairman said public financing alone would be insufficient to meet this goal. He told attendees of the Global Green Finance Leadership Programme that private capital needs to contribute its fair share towards helping Malaysia fulfil the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its climate commitments.
