Powers unite for 'Just transition' in Asia

Civil society leaders from different reaches of the society like the environmental and labour movements, climate and energy experts, and policy leaders, has come together to call for equitable energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy as part of the COVID-19 recovery, at the first-ever ‘Just Transition’ Forum in Asia (JTFA) on the 7th October 2021. Amidst massive job losses during this pandemic period – more than 81 million in Asia-Pacific in 2020 alone– the group urges for a shift from fossil fuels to address climate change. ‘Just transition’ is to communities of workers and their families employed in fossil-fuel-concentrated industries leaving none behind.
