Petronas, SEDC Energy To Develop Microalgae Oil For Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Petronas Research Sdn Bhd (PRSB), a subsidiary of Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas, has signed an agreement with the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC)’s subsidiary SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd to develop technology for microalgae oil production. Under the agreement, both parties will jointly develop algae production technology which includes the cultivation, harvesting, and extraction of crude algae oil that will later be refined to produce sustainable aviation fuel. Petronas project delivery and technology senior vice president Darul Bacho Pilong said that crude algae oil has the potential to support Petronas’ net zero emissions aspiration by 2050.
