Petronas and Idemitsu to Collaborate on Development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Japanese energy company Idemitsu Kosan and Malaysia's Petronas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and distribution of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The partnership will focus on feasibility studies to expand bio feedstock options, analyze production costs, and ensure a secure supply chain for SAF. This includes exploring non-edible oil feedstock trees like Pongamia and Jatropha. Both companies also plan to establish a robust SAF sales and distribution network to make SAF accessible to airlines. Petronas aims to have large-scale SAF production capacity by 2026, while Idemitsu is working on a domestic SAF production system to replace 10% of JET fuel consumption with SAF by 2030 in Japan.
