New Report Says Carbon Capture Will Not Be Critical in Steel Decarbonisation

A new report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) suggests that carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) will not be crucial for steel decarbonisation. The report argues that due to high costs, low capture rates, and a history of underperformance, CCUS is unlikely to play a significant role in making steel production more sustainable. The global steel sector, responsible for about 8% of the world’s total CO2 emissions, has seen little progress in transitioning to greener production.
