MMC, DRB-Hicom Take Pledge Against Bribery and Corruption

MMC Corp and DRB-Hicom have pledged to conduct ethical business and act in complete compliance to applicable laws and regulations in the presence of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). MMC group chairman, Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, said the company is committed to mitigate, deter and detect any form of bribery and corruption within the group to ensure it conducts its job with high integrity and principle. Currently, MMC and DRB-Hicom groups have policies and procedures in place that support the effort, such as a code of ethics, whistleblowing policy, employee handbook, raid protocol and anti-bribery, and an anti-corruption policy and framework. A new provision under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009 is scheduled for enforcement effective June 1st, 2020, which will impose liability on commercial organisations and accord strict personal liability if a person in an organisation commits a corrupt act when acquiring or retaining a contract or interest for the benefit of the organisation.
