Microsoft’s USD200mn Carbon Removal Deal Advances Heirloom’s DAC Solution

Microsoft has signed a significant carbon dioxide removal (CDR) deal with Direct Air Capture (DAC) start-up Heirloom, involving the removal of 315,000 metric tons of carbon at an estimated value of USD200mn. Heirloom uses DAC technology to accelerate the natural process of limestone absorbing CO2 from the air, significantly reducing the time it takes for carbon capture. This deal represents a substantial investment in project financing for Heirloom, allowing it to scale up its DAC technology. Microsoft had previously invested in Heirloom through its USD1bn Climate Innovation Fund.
