MGTC targets reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030
The Malaysian Green Technology And Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) is targeting a 45 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through its Sustainable Community Programme by 2030. CEO of MGTC, Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said the programme combined three main elements, namely society, economy, and environment. He said, among the approaches created through the Sustainable Community Programme are Green House of Worship which emphasises on conservation by the local community.
Shamsul went on to state that urban development which had not been planned properly was a major factor in greenhouse gas emissions. He said it contributes to more than 60 percent of greenhouse gas emissions and has a major impact on global warming and climate change. "Among the ways to achieve the 45 per cent target is to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions. "MGTC which is an agency under the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) will emphasise green sustainability," he said.
