Malaysian companies must embrace the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda to boost their reputational and competitive advantage, said HSBC Amanah Malaysia. CEO Raja Amir Shah Raja Azwa said that having a stronger ESG profile can also help companies reduce costs through increased efficiencies, secure access to the capital markets, and drive product innovation. Rather than seeing it as a costly compliance issue, the shift towards a greener economy should be viewed as an opportunity as the benefits are far-reaching, he said.
