Maybank and RHB banks receive ESG recognitions

The Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) received an AA rating by the recent Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG ratings, putting it in the “Leader” category for the second consecutive year under the MSCI ACWI Index (All Country World Index). The MSCI report highlighted Maybank’s relatively low exposure — roughly 4.9% of the bank’s loans — to environmentally intensive industries such as agriculture and metals and mining. It also noted the bank’s commitment not to finance any new coal activities. Meanwhile, RHB Banking Group was recognised as “World’s Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility” and “Asia’s Best Bank for Corporate Responsibility” at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2022 ceremony.
