Malaysia to Strengthen Ties with Japan on ESG

Malaysia wants to explore cooperation with Japan in new areas related to environmental, social and governance (ESG) frameworks, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP). The LEP was adopted by Malaysia in 1982 for it to learn best practices on social and economic development from Japan. In his speech delivered at the anniversary event by another minister, Ismail Sabri said that issues such as climate change are expected to adversely impact most countries over the next decade, and through projects and programmes implemented under the LEP, Malaysia would want to expand its cooperation with Japan. “This includes diversifying cooperation in the field of disaster crisis, ageing society, digital economy, science, technology and innovation as well as green growth,” he said.
