Malaysia needs to focus on renewable energy to enhance global competitiveness

Enhanced focus on renewable energy (RE) sources in the country such as wind, electricity and solar will improve Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global market. To achieve the government’s aim of reducing the intensity of greenhouse gases impact by 45% against GDP by 2030, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the nation needs to embrace the transition from carbon-based energy to RE. “The next step for Malaysia is to focus on RE like wind, electricity and solar to improve competitiveness at the global stage. The key to carbon neutrality is the development of innovative RE systems and digital solutions,” he said at the Huawei Malaysia Digital Power Summit 2021 in Kuala Lumpur on 2 December.
