The European Union (EU) and Malaysia will continue to work closely to implement the forthcoming EU Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), aimed at contributing to the global fight against deforestation and forest degradation. Both parties agreed to cooperate on how Malaysia's sustainable certification standard for palm oil (MSPO) provides readiness and assurances to supply chain partners and regulators in the EU under the EUDR. EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius commended Malaysia's efforts to bring deforestation levels down and acknowledged its commitment to certified sustainable commodity production.
