India Plans To Challenge EU Carbon Tax At WTO

India intends to lodge a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the European Union's plan to impose tariffs ranging from 20% to 35% on high-carbon imports such as steel, iron ore, and cement from India. Government and industry sources have confirmed that India plans to challenge the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) through the WTO and raise the issue in bilateral discussions. The Indian government aims to counter the CBAM's impact on its industries and believes that the mechanism undermines the principle of free trade.
