The global market for carbon dioxide (CO2) removal credits could reach up to $100 billion a year between 2030 and 2035, up from $2.7 billion last year, according to a report by Oliver Wyman. This growth is contingent on addressing barriers to its expansion. Demand for credits is increasing from diverse sectors, but it’s not yet large enough to drive the scale of projects needed. The report suggests including removals in the UK’s emissions trading system and endorsing their use within company net zero strategies.
