G7 Agree to End Use of Unabated Coal Power Plants by 2035
The G7 nations have agreed to end the use of unabated coal power plants by 2035. This agreement allows countries heavily reliant on coal and power plants fitted with carbon-capture technology some flexibility. The decision marks a significant climate milestone for the G7 countries, which include the UK, US, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan. This is the first time a target has been set on coal. The world’s largest coal power consumers, China and India, continue to build new coal plants.
