Former SBTi Employee Files Complaint With British Charity Watchdog
Former SBTi employee files complaint with British charity watchdog. A former employee of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has filed a complaint with Britain’s charity regulator, accusing the non-profit of acting against its mission. The complaint alleges that SBTi’s board acted recklessly in announcing plans to allow companies to use carbon credits in their targets, which the employee argues discourages companies from reducing their own emissions. The complaint also claims that SBTi’s board did not consult staff or advisers on this decision and that several board trustees have ties to the carbon offset industry. SBTi’s CEO, Luiz Amaral, stepped down earlier this month.
