EU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Fall 3% in First Quarter While Economy Grew
In 1Q23, greenhouse gas emissions in the EU decreased by nearly 3%, reaching 941 million metric tonnes of CO2 equivalents, even as the bloc's economy grew by 1.2% YoY. This decline in emissions occurred in 21 out of the EU's 27 countries, with the largest reductions in Bulgaria, Estonia, and Slovenia. Households accounted for the largest share of emissions, followed by manufacturing, while electricity and gas supply, agriculture, and transportation also contributed to the emissions total.
