Emirates and Shell Aviation Sign Sustainable Aviation Fuel Agreement
Emirates has signed an agreement with Shell Aviation to supply over 300,000 gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at its Dubai hub (DXB). This marks the first time SAF will be supplied through the DXB airport fuelling system. Emirates will use Avelia, a blockchain-powered SAF solution, to track SAF delivery and usage data. The airline will purchase the physical SAF and associated environmental attributes to decarbonize its Scope 1-related emissions, while Shell Corporate Travel will buy the Scope 3 environmental attributes associated with the same SAF for its business travel. SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.
