Economy Ministry to Develop Regulation for Trans-boundary Carbon Movements
The Economy Ministry will develop a policy and regulatory framework for carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) projects in Malaysia as part of the National Energy Transformation Roadmap (NETR). Malaysia aims to lead in carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in ASEAN, with Petronas planning projects in the Kasawari and Lang Lebah gas fields. The country is also exploring carbon trading through the Bursa Carbon Exchange and is conducting a feasibility study for a carbon pricing instrument. Other flagship initiatives in the NETR include energy storage, green hydrogen, and biomass demand creation, expected to generate significant investments, job opportunities, and CO2 reduction.
