Malaysia's draft bill on energy efficiency and conservation is being studied by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC), said its minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. Referring to countries such as the United Kingdom, where laws on energy efficiency have led to more efficient appliances and decreased energy demand, he said, “When there is energy-efficient electrical equipment, the government does not need to build power plants that require huge costs.” The minister has also launched the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme, which aims to increase people's awareness and knowledge about the energy industry.
