A coalition of industry leaders, environmental advocates, and policymakers is urging the European Union to include Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies in the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) as strategic net-zero technologies. They emphasize the vital role of CCU technologies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing renewable fuel production. The inclusion of CCU and CCS is seen as essential for substantial emissions reduction, workforce maintenance, investment certainty, and alignment with legislative priorities like the Fit for 55 legislation. The Net Zero Industry Act distinguishes between "net-zero technologies" and "strategic net-zero technologies," with the latter receiving priority and support.
