China Certified Emission Reduction Program Set For Restart

China is making significant progress in relaunching the China Certified Emission Reduction (CCER) program, which allows participants to acquire tradable carbon credits. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment has disclosed methodologies for quantifying net emission reductions or removals in various project types, such as forestation, solar thermal power, offshore wind power, and mangrove preservation. The relaunch is driven by growing demand for carbon credits amid the expansion of carbon trading and the scarcity of available credits. The program was suspended in 2017 due to low trading volumes but is now being reintroduced to strengthen China's efforts in decarbonization and environmental preservation.
