Brewer Carlsberg Malaysia is working with the Sabah Recycling Association (Ripple) to pilot a three-year glass bottle recycling and community empowerment programme. Named Carlsbot, the programme aims to tackle the overflow of unrecycled glass bottles in landfills. Invented by Sabah native Adrian Lasimbang, the Carlsbot can crush approximately 2,352 pints of Carlsberg glass bottles into cullet, coarse and fine sand in an hour. Thereafter, Ripple intends to provide the sand and entrepreneurial, marketing and sales skills to local communities so that they may repurpose the material for useful purposes like paving roads.
