Carbon Removal Market Could Reach USD135bn
A report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) suggests that Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) will play a central role in global decarbonization efforts, with increased demand and declining prices expected between 2030 and 2040. Durable CDR solutions, capable of reliably capturing and sequestering emissions for extended periods (ranging from 100 to over 1,000 years), are particularly crucial. These durable CDR methods include Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS), Biomass with Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS), Enhanced Weathering/Carbon Dioxide Mineralization, and Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement. BCG anticipates robust demand for durable CDR, driving growth in both voluntary and non-voluntary carbon markets.
