Asian chemical fibre industry urged to strengthen sustainability practice

The Asian chemical fiber industry is urged to strengthen its sustainability practices to reduce environmental burden, said the Asian Chemical Fiber Industries Federation (ACFIF) today. The federation’s chairman, Ikuo Takeuchi, said sustainability has been the industry players' responsibility as chemical fiber production by ACFIF members accounted for approximately 90 percent of global chemical fiber production in 2021. "We need to feel the sense of crisis but we can positively capture the opportunity as well," said Ikuo. ACFIF also said that for the chemical fiber industry to more effectively reduce carbon emissions, it is necessary to receive government policy support to establish a method for calculating emissions and set up related standards and labels as well as ensuring stable and low-cost carbon-free energy.
