Amid High Levels of Pollution Indonesian Minister Urges Switch to EVs

Indonesia's Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, is urging citizens to transition to electric vehicles (EVs) to address air quality issues, particularly in Jakarta, which has been ranked among the world's most polluted cities. Fossil fuel-powered vehicles are a major contributor to air pollution, accounting for over 50% of pollution in the country. The government is committed to developing the EV ecosystem and encouraging the conversion from fuel-powered motorcycles to electric ones. To ensure the safety of converted motorcycles, regulations are being put in place to enhance vehicle testing services for electric motorcycles. The minister hopes that the EV ecosystem will evolve, leading to better quality and affordability of EVs.
