Address Gender Gap in Budget 2023: NCWO

Malaysia’s 2023 Budget will be tabled in Parliament on October 7 and the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) is hoping that it will address the gender gap in employment, the increasing unpaid care work that women are taking up due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and improve social security protection and access to justice and rights mechanisms for women. NCWO President Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin said that women’s employment should also be supported through investments in the childcare economy, and that Budget 2023 should encourage flexible working arrangements for both the private and public sectors.
