Theme: ASEAN's Pathway to Sustainability: Targets for 2020 and Beyond
Global attention to climate change and sustainability are driving dramatic and new challenges for ASEAN’s agroforestry sector. Despite greater attention and improved management of fires and haze over the past few years, there continues to be growing demands for producers, major buyers and financial institutions to do more.
Governments and companies have responded by taking steps to increase their accountability. Stakeholders have set and are tracking these various sustainability targets. A target on the horizon is ASEAN’s goal of a haze-free region by 2020. As this deadline draws near, it is timely not only for governments and industry to take stock of its current progress but to also start discussions how trade and finance can do more to shape a sustainable future post-2020.
Against this backdrop, the 6th Singapore Dialogue on Sustainable World Resources (SDSWR) will explore the following questions: How can ASEAN’s agroforestry and resource sector take one step further to address broader and more ambitious goals in climate change and sustainability? What are the emerging expectations of governments, environmental advocates and consumers? What more can be done by the trade and finance sectors to advance sustainable practices in the agroforestry supply chain?
